The First Citizen: The Life and Legacy of Theophilus Hunter

Wake County Historical Society invites you to  learn about the life and legacy of Theophilus Hunter. Soldier, judge, legislator, and Raleigh founder, Theophilus Hunter was one of Raleigh’s original citizens. His influence shaped the new capital city in 1792, and his family’s legacy influenced it for a century afterward. Historian Ernest Dollar explores Hunter’s life and his family’s lasting impact on Raleigh and the new Dix Park.

Since 2012, Ernest Dollar has served as the Executive Director of the City of Raleigh (COR) Museum and the M. T. Pope House Museum. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Public History from NC State and a BFA in History and Design from UNCG.
