Dix Park Turns 10!
On July 24, 2015, the City of Raleigh purchased the 308-acre property now known as Dix Park from the State of North Carolina, marking the start of a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create an extraordinary public space for and with our community.
In 2016, a public-private partnership began between the City of Raleigh and @dixconservancy , ensuring that the park’s development reflects both community aspirations and long-term sustainability, creating a space that belongs to everyone.
In 2017, the City and Conservancy launched an ambitious and innovative Master Plan process, led by @mvva.inc and a team of consultants, engaging more than 65,000 area residents to help envision the future of the park.
That vision became reality in 2019 when the Master Plan was officially adopted by Raleigh City Council, setting the stage for exciting projects that connect Dix Park to the greater community, restore its landscapes and buildings, and create spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Over the past decade, we’ve seen it all:
- Restoration work
- More greenspace
- Opening of Gipson Play Plaza
- A 10-Year Implementation Plan to guide what’s next
From a bold idea to a reality in bloom
Dix Park continues to become a vibrant space shaped by community voices and shared dreams. And we’re just getting started. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey so far. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish together in the next 10 years!
