New Scooter and Bike Parking
Visitors can now ride an e-scooter or bike share to more places throughout the park thanks to permanent scooter and bike parking corrals located near Dix Park's most popular destinations. Created through a partnership between the City of Raleigh Transportation Department and Raleigh Parks, the new parking areas give visitors another convenient way to experience the capital city's premier urban park.
Before the pilot program launched in 2025, shared scooters weren't permitted at Dix Park and only two bikeshare docking stations served the park. Today, visitors can ride a scooter or bike, park in a designated corral, and spend more time exploring everything the park has to offer. The project also added new bike racks through out the park, making it easier for visitors riding their own bicycles.
From Pilot to Permanent
The idea started with a simple question: Would people choose shared scooters and bikes to visit Dix Park?
Over a three-month pilot program, the answer quickly became clear. Thousands of visitors used shared mobility to get to and around the park, whether attending events, meeting friends, or exploring different destinations.
After reviewing trip data, the 11 most-used locations became permanent parking corrals. Today, designated parking areas, clear signage, and geofenced parking zones help riders know exactly where to park while keeping sidewalks and gathering spaces open for everyone to enjoy.
Where Art Meets Infrastructure
Parking corrals don't usually turn heads—but these do. Dix Park is the first location in North America to pilot Tulip Cycle Delineators, colorful, sculptural markers that transform a functional piece of infrastructure into an inviting design feature. Inspired by the shape of a tulip, the markers clearly identify scooter and bike parking while adding a touch of whimsy to the landscape.
As Dix Park continues to grow, providing more ways for people to get here—and move around once they arrive—helps create a more welcoming and connected experience for everyone.
