Raleigh Parks Bike Maintenance

Event Details

Learn about bike maintenance with Oaks & Spokes!

Participants are encouraged to bring their own bike to work on. Tools, supplies, and repair stands will be provided. Each session ends with time to ask questions about your specific bicycle.

Registration

Free to attend. Registration is required.
Registration opens two weeks in advance of the program date at 12:00 pm.

This program is free to the public thanks to Dix Park Conservancy donors.

Basic Maintenance 

This basic bike maintenance class teaches beginners to keep their bicycle in good working order. Through hands-on instruction participants will practice the essentials like fixing flat tires, cleaning and lubricating the chain, and performing a safety check (ABC Quick Check).

Basic Maintenance for Women+

This basic bike maintenance class is created for women, femme, and gender-nonconforming riders who want to learn how to keep their bicycle in good working order. Through hands-on instruction, participants will practice the essentials, including fixing flat tires, cleaning and lubricating the chain, and performing a safety check (the ABC Quick Check).

Intermediate Maintenance 

This intermediate bike maintenance class teaches riders how to keep their bicycle in tip-top shape through hands-on instruction on topics like adjusting brakes, fine-tuning gears, and understanding wheel trueness.

Know Before You Go

Participants are encouraged to bring their own bike to practice on. 

Tools and repair stands will be provided. 

There will be time at the end of each class to ask specific maintenance questions on your bike.

  • Via Western Boulevard: Enter at Hunt Drive or S. Boylan Avenue
  • Via Lake Wheeler Road: Enter at Umstead Drive
  • Follow signs towards Chapel
  • Parking is located in the lots next to and in front of the Chapel. ADA parking is available.

Dix Park continues to strive to be accessible and welcoming for visitors, including those with disabilities. Currently, portions of Dix Park, including some areas where programs and events occur, have uneven surfaces and are not fully accessible. Accessibility is a primary focus for all park improvements and development.

Parking: ADA parking spaces for the Chapel are to the left and out front of the building. ADA parking spaces are available in all lots.

Chapel Entrance: Ramp and ADA push button activated door is located to the left of the front of the building. 

Restrooms: Indoor accessible restrooms are available in the Chapel.
