About Accessibility at Dix Park

Dix Park continues to strive to be accessible and welcoming for visitors, including those with disabilities.

Currently, portions of Dix Park, including some areas where programs and events occur, have uneven surfaces and are not fully accessible. Accessibility is a primary focus for all park improvements and park development projects.

Parking: Accessible/ADA parking spaces are available in all paved lots. See the parking map for locations.

Pathways: Improved sidewalks with curb cuts are generally located around completed park project areas (Stone Houses, Gipson Play Plaza, and The Chapel).

Restrooms: Accessible temporary restrooms are located at the Big Field and Flowers Field. Indoor accessible restrooms are available in the following locations:

The Stone Houses

Gipson Play Plaza

House of Many Porches Market

Playgrounds: Adventure and water play areas at Gipson Play Plaza are fully accessible. Accessible swings are available at the Magnolia Room. Accessible pathways lead to the play features at the Magnolia Room and Oak Room.

Service Animals: Service animals are welcome in the park.

Exhibits: The interpretive signage throughout the park is available as a virtual exhibit online. The history exhibit in the Stone Houses Visitor Center is available online and on-site in large format. Visit the Dix Park History page for digital exhibits.

Programs and Events: Movies are shown with subtitles. We offer Guided Walking Tours with ASL interpreters, and Guided Trolley Tours, which are ADA accessible. Check our Event Calendar or contact us for upcoming dates.

Sensory Kits:  Dix Park offers sensory kits to help people of all abilities enjoy and feel comfortable in the park. Each kit includes audio and sensory items to support different needs. Kits are borrowed and should be returned to a staff member at the end of your visit. All items are cleaned and/or replaced after each use. Kits are available during open hours at Gipson Play Plaza Guest Services, Stone Houses Visitor Center, The Chapel; and at all events at the Information/Accessibility tent.

Raleigh Parks Inclusion Services works with community members to support participation including language translation and interpretation. To request a program modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or language access, please complete and submit the Accommodation Request Form or contact Inclusion Services staff at 919-996-2147 or ParksInclusion@raleighnc.gov.
