Deeply Rooted - A Photography Walk Series invites participants to explore Dix Park through a creative and historically significant lens, led by a local photography professional. Attendees will learn beginner‑friendly techniques for capturing landscapes, architecture, and nature while hearing curated historical highlights along the route. This 2.5 hour outdoor experience blends movement, mindfulness, and storytelling, offering a unique way to connect with the park’s past, present and future. This program will begin and end at the Dix Park Visitor Center and will walk to explore various sites on campus.
Registration
Space is limited, registration is required. Registration opens two weeks in advance of each program date at 12:00 pm.
This program is free to the public thanks to Dix Park Conservancy donors.
Know Before You Go
- Personal device for photography (smartphones, cameras - DSLR, mirrorless, or film)
- The tour takes place outside the entire time. Dress for the weather.
- Walking up hills, in grass and on uneven surfaces will be necessary. Comfortable and closed-toe shoes are recommended.
- Water bottle. Water fountains and refilling stations are located at the Stone Houses and throughout the park.

- Follow signs towards Visitor Center
- Parking is located across Umstead Drive and at The Chapel, Lot C
If there is inclement weather, the tour will be canceled and registered participants will be notified by Eventbrite email.
Indoor public restrooms are available at the Stone Houses. Temporary restrooms are available throughout the park.
Dix Park continues to strive to be accessible and welcoming for visitors, including those with disabilities. Currently, portions of Dix Park, including some areas where programs and events occur, have uneven surfaces and are not fully accessible. Accessibility is a primary focus for all park improvements and development.
Parking: ADA parking spaces for the Stone Houses are located behind the buildings off Tate Dr.
Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are available at the Superintendents House public restroom facility and in the Visitor Center.
Building Entrances: Ramps are located at the rear of the buildings.
